How do you pronounce that volcanos name?

As European air-travel gets back to normal after the Icelandic volcano eruption many are asking what the long term effects of the shut-down are likely to be.

It has been suggested that the eruption of Eyjafjallajokull will result in a long period of disruption for european air travel. Much like the effects of the September 11th terrorist attacks.

Many travelers have stated that they will be opting for an alternative mode of transport if available. For example, some people who telecommute between Europe and the United Kingdom, are now opting to take the train.

The psychological effects of hte ash cloud on traveler confidence is thought to have been very significant. However, travel industry experts have said that they dont expect the recent events to effect the way in which Americans travel to Europe.

But the chaos and costs caused by the volcanic eruption present even more challenges to the beleagered airline industry. There is also the strong chance that the neighbouring, larger volcano Katla will also erupt. Katla has erpted each of the last 3 times that Eyjafjallajokull erupted.

If uncertainty over the volcano eruptions persists then this will inevitable effect traveler confidence. This will directly impact airlines financial recovery plans during 2010.

There continues to be major differences of opinion from various aviation authorities regarding what should be the proper response to a massive volcanic eruption. Many now claim that the decision to ground all commercial aircraft, leading to the cancellation of 100,000 flights, was a massive over-reaction. Others are saying that this was the only sensible course of action that would protect travelers.

The European Union has acknowledged that the recent crisis exposed flaws in the continental air traffic management system. These issues led to the uncoordinated and confusing responses the the volcanic ash cloud issue. This system is now to undergo an urgent reform.

It is recommended that you always book in advance for great savings on Heathrow parking, Gatwick parking and Manchester airport parking.
