Poker player of the year is a great achievement by a person who wins it and is given to him or her for an awesome year in poker offline or online. To win 1 online poker tournament is a tremendous achievement but winning 6 in a year is just great. Last year Harrison Gimbel of USA won 6 poker tournaments offline and online and deservedly took away the title of player of the year. His winnings for the whole year of 2009 was approximately 3 million dollars. That is huge for a 19 year old.
Gilber321 is his nickname in poker tournaments online. He started playing poker since his early teens with his brother who also was in his teens only 2 years older than Harrison. They started playing against their friends and families with just $10 buy in. Harrison won his biggest cash prize of $57,377.50 in PokerStars weekly tournament for coming second and his buy in was $1000. He said he was never an online cash player and has always been in love with the live tournaments. He is still only 19 and still less experienced than other players who play in love poker tournaments. He says his favorite poker players are Phil Ivey and Dario Minieri and his favorite game is NLHE MTTS. He enjoys chinese food and makes his way down to his local chinese restaurant every week.
The list of the tournaments he won in 2009 are listed below. The Nightly Hundred Grand, $22,000 guarantee (1r+1a), $33,000 guarantee (1r+1a), $40,000 guarantee, $33,000 guarantee (r+1a) and $55+R NL Holdem $40,000 guaranteed. In June 2009 he won the 2009 Florida State Poker Championships. Recently in 2010 he went home with 2010 Pokerstars Caribbean Adventure Main event title. It looks like he is one player to watch out for in next few years as he is definitely on the up.
He also finished second and third 5 times in ten other tournaments in 2009. He is also going to be participating in tournaments of rakeback deals and full tilt poker in next few months of 2010.
