May Diabetics Also Possess A Travel Insurance Policy?

July 4th, 2010 by admin Leave a reply »

Diabetes is rather common these days particularly for people over 55 years of age. Those with diabetes require special needs and take regular medications so it is important for them to have some form of insurance just in case something happens when they travel.

Most insurance companies consider diabetes a high risk. Diabetes should be covered as an illness on any kind of policy, and certainly for travelers this should be no exception. With this comes the question- what would it cover when you are traveling? This is something to consider when getting travel health insurance. Some cheap travel insurance policies, such as a winter sports travel insurance policy will not cover everything.

The coverage rates for diabetics could vary based on the insurance company. As always, inquire up front as they relate to your situation and read the fine print. No question is a dumb question if you dont have an answer, so ask away. You are just making certain that what you are investing in is worth every penny. Just remember that these insurances may consider you a higher risk which may increase your premiums.

The second factor to remember with travel insurance as it relates to your diabetes is that you will need to be honest about your diabetes and make sure that you give all the details to a special medical screening line. Some companies may not tell you about this up front, but it is better to tell the truth. The last thing you need to do is get the medical coverage for your travels, and then if something does happen you want to be able to get treatment and have insurance to help pay for it. Any information that you give to them is the same as any other policy. By doing this, you would help them in determining which policy would be most useful for you.
