It is a real adventure to travel to different parts of the world. Even in these times since 9/11, there are still places in the world that are a real treat to visit. Beautiful countries with exotic cultures and interesting foods and customs. But if you never have traveled, you have never owned a passport. This article will teach you how to get a passport so you can hurry and get to the part of the world you have never seen before.

Get the right forms. A passport will not happen if you don’t have these. All you really need to do is get in your car and drive to the post office for them. They will gladly help you since they have been in business doing this for decades upon decades. Or, if you like to stay home, just print them off on the computer. Go to the right website, and if you don’t know what that is, visit the post office website. No shiny paper or paper with holes in it. And, you can’t have color copies.

You are going to need to follow the instructions on the first two pages of the forms to the letter. Remember, these forms are for traveling abroad. If you have printed the forms off from the internet, you must make sure that they are printed off on standard paper that has no holes in it. Just your normal copy paper will do, and it has to be in black and white. No color printing or copies are allowed to be used as formal documents.

Your United States citizenship is very important to getting a passport. The United States Department of State says that you need to prove your United States citizenship with a certified birth certificate issued by the county, city, or state. You cannot in any way use a copy for proof of citizenship.

If you don’t have a birth certificate from this country, then use a certificate of citizenship, or, a naturalization certificate to prove citizenship. Nothing else is going to work for you if you don’t have these.

You are going to have to prove your identity if you want an American passport. You can use passport that you have used in the past, a naturalization certificate, or a certificate of citizenship. In addition to these, you will need to have a current and valid driver’s license. You may even need government identification, or a military identification card. Again, all these should be in safe places for easy finding.

Get two photos of yourself. Wear clothing that you normally wear and don’t dress up special for this. No hats are to be worn, and, if you wear glasses, wear those too. If you are unsure how to dress, then just check with the people at the post office, they are the true experts in passports.

If you want the process finished up quickly, then make sure that you have the fee required to pay for the new U.S. passport. Also, make sure you have your social security number. This will answer your questions and guide you on how to get an American passport.
