Wildlife holidays can be a lot fun when you pick the right destination. The Galapagos Islands are a great destination for people who want to go on an active wildlife holiday. The Galapagos Islands boast species of animals that you cannot see in any other place on the planet.

It often passes people by that wildlife holidays are also active holidays. For those with a passion for walking holidays the Galapagos Islands have some great trails and places to go. There are lots of other activities you can take part in if you are feeling a little more adventurous than most. The additional activities include water sports like snorkelling and kayaking as well as activities like horse riding.

You will find the Galapagos Islands situated 525 miles off the coast of Ecuador. A UNESCO world heritage site you will be able to see some amazing species of animals residing on the island. 23,000 people live on the Galapagos Islands speaking the native language Spanish.

Galapagos Tortoises have 14 different species, which can be differentiated by the length of their necks. Some of these species are now extinct.

The sea turtle called the pacific green sea turtle is the only sea turtle you will find that lives on the Galapagos Islands. If you go in the first part of the year you will be able to find these turtles laying their eggs on the beach.

You can find many different lizards on the Galapagos Islands and even one that lives in the ocean. You will find the other lizards on land eating cactus plants.

Most people wouldnt of thought of penguins living on the Galapagos Islands but there they are. These are the only penguins that you can find near to the line of the equator.

There are many more animals that you will be able to see when you visit the Galapagos Islands.
